Hosted in Urban Spaces Sfinții Voievozi, the exhibition "Home Beyond the Home Door" explores the idea of quality of life at an intermediate level, broader than "the apartment" and smaller than "the city." This temporary exhibition was organized in one of the commercial spaces on the ground floor of the building, a space sold and made available by the buyer. The space is set to be arranged by the owner, but during this transition period, we had the opportunity to experiment with the use of a "waiting space."
To hand over the space at the end of the exhibition in the same condition as we received it, we designed independent, easy-to-dismantle structures that do not require attachment to the slab or walls. We opted for accessible construction materials such as OSB, drywall, metal profiles, and concrete blocks, all of which confer and support the industrial/under construction aspect of the exhibition, reflecting the continuous activity of developers in their ongoing projects. Most installations were left visible, while others were covered or integrated into the volumes that make up the arrangement.
We collaborated with partners and brands that joined us during these days, such as Fika, Urban Vintage, Vaalbara, Milleformis, and Primitiv Plants. Additionally, we managed to reuse some of the materials left over from the construction of the residential complexes. We used lighting fixtures left from the stairwell, ceramic tiles used on the facade, and sheet metal from the construction of the bar, which was repurposed for planter covers.
As a designer, I wanted to create an exhibition space where visitors would spend more time in the presence of the exhibits and projects. I created micro-spaces that encourage lingering, socializing, and admiring the exhibition: a bar area for drinks, a corner with magazines to browse, object displays, seating areas, and a small terrace. Another important element was overcoming two-dimensionality. Being an exhibition with architectural panels presenting the concept of living outside the home, I wanted the representations to take on diverse forms: boxes, panels, a large canvas with sketches, a horizontal photographic display on a long table, postcards, etc.
We wanted the exhibition "Home Beyond the Home Door" to create experiences that connect people and stimulate the community, to inspire and provoke new ways of thinking about living and common spaces.
